At one time I use to precharge my starter battery in my Honda. It lasted like 7 miles or so. I swear some company makde 14 volt batteries, alternators and chargers for racing applications if not audio competation, but I can not find them.

No, seriously, a full load on an alt is like 3 hp taken from your engine. Rig it so it only works when you push a switch like when engine braking or the voltage falls below 12.4 volts or something. Thats what Honda does and has been doing sofor years by way of their ELD.
