I try my best to avoid those. Often a speed-up is the best answer, to allow the left-lane car to get ahead. When it's a bike in the left lane, I do whatever I can to keep them safe, including going above the limit.
A quick 3-flash of the hazard blinkers can alert the driver from farther away and help avoid such conflict, too.
