There are 9 Mustang owners currently "active" (have posted a fuel log entry since Jan 1, 2012) in the Garage. I've been maintaining my fuel log here for 3 years.
Some seem to give up after a few fills when they learn that there is no "magic bullet" for better fuel economy. That's not limited to Mustang owners.

It takes some time and effort to adjust the "nut behind the steering wheel", but that's where some of the largest fuel economy gains can be made. Adjusting one's commuting route can also yield significant gains, in my experience.

Best of luck with your Mustang fuel economy project.
