AC Compressor Delete?

My AC system didn't work and had no charge left. I gutted all of the hard lines and hoses to free up space in the engine bay and remove the extra weight.

The AC compressor is still part of the drive belt system and I would assume puts load on the drive system and probably weighs a lot as well.

Anybody have any experience trying to remove this and either gut it (turn it into a simple pulley attached to nothing) or install some kind of pulley to maintain the original drive belt path?

Do you think there is worthwhile savings to be had in this?
