Aerodynamic lift for better efficiency works nice for planing boats.
The most common application is the catamaran, which normally start to get better efficiency than monohulls at speeds above 50 knots. This is entirely due to aerodynamic effects and the catamaran has a larger wetted surface at lower speeds.

There are also winged monohulls, some successful, but mostly for very high speed.

Dragging stuff through water is extremely energy-demanding compared to rolling some tires across the road so the tradeoff between lift/drag works very well with boats.

Time to start an ecomod forum for boats?
