The oil companies learned a lesson with the 09 price spike. Let the prices spike then drop. After a few rounds then the public is Ok with a higher price as an average. When consumption dropped 10% and the tanks were full everywhere then the price plunged. I would not count on that happening again. Yesterday I bought gas for $3.179 a gallon, which seems cheap compared to $3.90 a short time ago, or $4.19 for alcohol free fuel in a different county.
