WAI plan: opinions please

I recently won a k&n cold air intake kit for my truck on eBay just like this: K&N Product Information I got it for under $100 it's a brand new display model that was never installed on a vehicle before. What I was thinking, is take the heat shield around the cone air filter off so it sucks warm air from the engine bay. I know it's a lot easier and cheaper to make a WAI, but I didn't want to cut up my stock intake (only 1 year old), and the cheapest maf sensor adapter I could find was $50 so for an extra $50 I got a huge 12" around cone k&n filter plus a smoother flowing tube. The only worries I have is losing low end torque. I had a similar intake on my 05 silverado and it lost quite a bit of low end power which would be bad seeing as how I usually shift before 2500rpm. All of the reviews I've read on Tacoma forums say that you won't, but I'm always a little skeptical. I was just wondering what all of your feelings on it were. I'll probably go to one of my friends houses and install it tonight so if anyone wants to see pictures i can post them but at the least I'll have some feedback in a few days when I fill up my tank again (just filled it yesterday, still on f)
