Got a new set of tires

The diesel Beetle is going on a road trip Friday, and it was time to dump the old Fuzion crap put on new by the dealer. I drove them 50k noisy miles at 42psi, should've rotated them once or twice, but didn't. And they howled.

I replaced them with Michelin Destiny, 80k mile warranty. Talk about a different ride, quiet and the new tread is very squirmy. The interesting thing is the tire shop must have tested my old inflation pressure, or noticed my window sticker and bumper sticker (got 50mpg? and While I hypermile, you hurry up to stop!) because instead of filling the new tires to recommended pressure of 28 psi, the new pressures are

38 psi front
42 psi rear

Sidewall maximum is 44 psi. Not bad for Discount Tire!

Once the car gets back from the road trip, we'll see how the mileage changes...
