Looking at the 7-leg distance breakdown for the entire race,the team was budgeting an equivalent of 385 mpg for the longest leg,171-miles,and all uphill into Aurora,Colorado.This was with EV-1,Delphi, lead-acid batteries.
Amory Lovins and the folks at Rocky Mountain Institute were going for these kinds of numbers with their 'Hypercar',which I believe came in at around Cd 0.16 'n maybe twice the frontal area or more.Not sure about the weight although in straight highway driving this has less impact on mpg as most would think.
It would be a hybrid,so that changes the equation.
If we declared war on traffic congestion and un-synchronized traffic lights we could double our urban mpg with no change to the existing fleet.
