Any suggestions on good easy to find clear plastic to cover the brake lights?
lexan, acrylic. I found one of those clear plastic basement window covers for $7 (half that of acrylic) and culled enough flat, straight plastic to cover my turn signal/fog light openings. I think it was polyethylene (HDPE/LDPE).
