Talking Should I punch a hole in my engine?

Years ago when I worked at Sony Pictures, I met this guy who drove a Toyota Yaris sedan. He had a long commute and needed extra high mpg so he punched a hole in the engine somewhere and was getting 50 mpg or something with a Yaris. He said the car lost power (and they only have a little engine in the first place) but that the mpg was worth it. Where exactly would he have punched a hole? And would that not be recommended in terms of getting dirt in the engine?

Thanks!

P.S. I probably won't do this, but I am intrigued.
