I voted "some changes" as a function of other people's feedback to this thread. In any case I would say you could do it your way for v1.0 and see what happens.

Are you going to charge for the App? If yes then would it be the "dollar app" or more pricey? I'm interested in your mind-set, aka a learn-Android exercise or a spin-off to making $.

For the class I would guess that you are deliberately using Android. Down the road you could re-implement it in the at-present-amorphous "HTML-5" and then you would be forward-compatible to platform independence.
