Hucho's book has some schematics developed from windtunnel studies of towed trailers.Sorry,I can't post the graphics.If you can get a peek at the book it will show you the lowest-drag configuration for a roof-top air deflector to kick the air up to the roof of the trailer.If you can cobble together some bedcover which slopes up and out to meet the new trailer face,filling in as much gap as possible,you should loose the inter-vehicle vortex.
