The sticker that recommends tire pressure is often recommending a pressure that gives the smoothest ride, higher pressure is also recommended when you increase the weight of the vehicle with more people or cargo, my owners manual says that if you are doing highway driving to increase the pressure by 4-5psi for longer tire life, but most people don't read their owners manual.
