I've got the difficult fabrication done on the doors. I converted the doors into "suicide" doors, doors that open from the front. Let's call them sroods, or reverse doors, I like that better. It is much easier to get into the car with doors like this, because your don't step into this car, you must swing your legs in/out and the door is in the way if hinged in front.
I discarded the very heavy stock hinges and door latches. My first attempt at fabricating hinges in aluminum wasn't successful (too much play), so I used door hinges from my parts Prius but cut out most of the weight, and I only have one hinge,
so its not too heavy but very sturdy. The door latches are from a Taurus, but again I removed everything not needed. And if you notice, I put the latch on the car and the pin on the door, normal cars do it the opposite.
As I have no external door handles, no point in putting the extra weight of the latch on the doors. The otherside should not take 3 days to do..
