About all adding acetone will do is act like fuel system cleaner.
Tried this back around 2006 or 2007 (not on my diesel) with a few other people. A-B-A-B-A testing seemed to show a slight improvement over the established base line after the first B test, other than that first B test there wasn't any other clear or seemingly positive result.
