"engine is ok,"

humm

these little [1800cc] truck /tractor engines my thing has are pretty durable
if its carrying pretty equal compression across all the cyls , the bearings on the crank are not rumbling and all that other bearings[rod] not slapping we think they are good to go.

im looking for a *B* block myself ,, i know a guy will sell me a rebuild kit , provide telephone advice , advice and coordination with the machine shop ..
the whole nine yards..

he is a race builder of note. very well admired engine builder

just how much do you think i would like to have a rebuilt mill with a specialty cam.. bored out 40 over

did i miss a remark where you posted the diagnosis of the reasons you put the little machine out of service?

....i figured the thing had blown .. down in the ditch and the rods a knockin ..

just what are the symptoms that indicate to you that a new. [another] engine is required

what we look for is a big bang ... loss of oil pressure .. big regular slapping and banging .. and then there is the the more subtle "death rumble' from the lower end
