The first car I ever worked on was a 1969 Rambler Classic, 2 door, same blue, same seats. It was family transportation for us, my mom didn't have much money, so when the Rambler wasn't running, my brother and I would take turns riding out bikes to the store for groceries. With that motivation, at 14 years old, I figured out how to do simple things like replace the water pump, the starter motor, radiator hoses, with little else but some open end wrenches, dime store pliers, borrowed tools, and some automotive advise from neighbors (some good, some not-so-good).

Good luck with your project. I had trouble finding the right parts when mom's Rambler was only 8 years old. It seems AMC was at the end of the supply chain for assembly parts. They got the pick of whatever GM, Ford, then Chrysler didn't use. Midyear changes, several different part numbers to choose from, were all part of the process when working on AMC's.
