A quick note on the windshield cowl, holy cow! I took the car out for a few minutes to get baseline downhill coasting and coast down speeds while I warmed it up for an oil change and.. HOLY COW!
No idea what it will do to/for mileage but the noise from the mirrors is cut by half or more. I couldn't believe my ears so I tucked it under the hood on the passenger side and sure enough there was a lot more turbulence noise on that side again.
Thanks for the thoughts, Scivicblu, but no mirror delete for this car. Everything I'm doing can be undone with a pair of side cutters, a couple of wrenches and an hour or less. I'm planning to sell this car when I get back from this roadtrip so this is kind of a final thrust towards 40mpg before I return the car to mostly stock and sell it. Don't worry though, the Jetta will be getting some love too as I get more familiar with working on it.
