Wait, I drive a big V8 luxury brick!

And I deliberately moved 25 miles closer to work once it became obvious I'd be working there for a while. And I commute by bicycle now that it's just a short ride.

Filling up a tank for $60 hurts, I admit. If the changes in supply and demand create the need for innovation, I say it's worth it. I can handle change better than I can handle stagnation. It doesn't seem like comfortable or satisfied people innovate much.
