Hi, I just joined up here because I am in a similar boat as you.
I installed a front air dam off of a late 80's ranger I bought for $5
I havent tested it yet but I think it cant hurt.
Beings I can't post links or images yet just google Brazeau racing mustang air dam and it will take you to a how to I followed.
p.s- I have a 84 GT and although it didnt fit 100% it was close enough and after some fine tuned trimming it looks decent
