While this may not apply to your project, to reliably run "lean of peak", you will need a wideband sensor. Then, you will need to program in a specific set of conditions under which the engine will be operated lean. Also, you will likely want more timing advance, as a lean mixture burns more slowly.

To really get this right, a stand alone engine management systems needs to be used, with the wideband, and someone who knows tuning well enough to do it correctly.

Many modern stand alone systems will autotune, when properly programmed.
