TheEnemy, that is an interesting idea. I will keep it in mind.

The shop charged me $7 to replace the fluid after our phone conversation where I said that I did not want to keep adding fluid because it would eat my belts. My alternator on my first car went out for that and that may have been why I needed to replace the rack and pinion also.

The best price that I can find on-line is $229.95 for "OES Genuine" at autopartswarehouse.com and $247.13 for "Genuine OEM" at autohausaz.com. However, jcwhitney.com has universal hoses for $29.29 and fittings for $12.40. I would just need to figure out the proper sizing.

This was interesting:

FORESTER SUBARU FORESTER 1998 A Fire Started Within The engine compartment of the vehicle due to a faulty power steering hose. please give any further details.
LEGACY SUBARU LEGACY 1994 Spontaneous Explosion And Fire Destroying 1994 subaru and damaging another car and adjacent home. fire inspector assessed cause as ruptured power steering hose.
LEGACY SUBARU LEGACY 1994 Vehicle Consumed By Fire. fire inspector's report attributes cause to power steering hose separation at pump.

AutoMD.com has a replacement guide.

Well, I am going to get back to not failing. I hope that you guys have a great day.
