Make sure the 617 type injectors are breaking at the right pressure. You want it as high as practical to get better atomization. I think it was 1800 PSI new or max spec.
A lot of the older injectors that had been there a while the break off pressure would slowly drop off to 1400-1500 PSI and that was when you got heavy smoke, the fuel was not being properly atomized. I think you can shim injectors to jack up the pressure.
