Fuel economy for an on road vehicle and off road ability are pretty much mutually exclusive. If you are getting 15mpg in the jeep and drive it on the road 40,000 miles a year that is 2600 gallons of fuel. at 3 bucks a gallon that's 7800 in fuel get a car that gets 30mpg you will burn 1300 gallons or 4000 bucks. 3800 you could save in fuel. spend 2000 on a 4 door little car. 1000 in licence, fees, and insurance, pocket 800 bucks or spend it on making the jeep more capable.

Just a quick search on CL for Medford shows at least 4 cars on the first page that if running correctly could get 35mpg with out trying.
