My 300D turbo diesel has an ARV valve. Basically it just vents the turbo charge back around the compressor. I think it was put on engine to prevent the Nox emissions. At 55 mph it wouldn't boost even though the turbo was spinning.
I blocked the valve that controlled the ARV and the engine immediately gets 4-5psi at 55 mph cruise and now gets about 3 mpg better. My last fill was 32 mpg.
I figure it this way. Some boost increases the compression ratio giving more heat to the combustion and more efficiency.
