So you arrived at your $8000 estimate using 14mpg and $4/gal, correct? That would mean you drive 28,000 miles a year?
I understand that you like the truck, but I like to work smarter not harder, especially when the consequence is money out the tailpipe. You could buy a $2000 dollar car that gets 30mpg (fairly easy in most any car if you want to hypermile), and even at $3 a gallon, it would still pay for itself in under a year.

I admire you trying to save fuel with what you have and I wish you success in whatever route you end up taking. I just recommend taking a long, hard look at the cost vs benefits.
