Another variable is elevation change. I regularly make a trip of about 60 miles, with 800 foot elevation change (13 feet per mile). I average 27 to 33 MPG uphill, and 30 to 42 MPG downhill.
Two more variables:
Wind direction and velocity.
Temperature.
Those two variables are why my mileage on the downhill trip has varied from 30 MPG to 42 MPG. Crosswinds are slightly worse than headwinds on my truck.

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.
