I'd rather try to make an aluminium-bodied replica, attempting to go even lighter. Also, its windows seem to increase the drag comparing to a fold-down one which is the current standard.
It's a design from 1961, so it has its own limitations which actually doesn't seem so impossible to overcome. The mid-engine layout could even allow to increase the front clip design if the radiator was a little tilted back...
