That radiator replacement may be the best thing that could have happened to you. A lot of people let the radiator go to the poiint where they blow a head gasket, then when they replace the gasket the engine uses oil like crazy until it is completely rebuilt. I would be upset if it was a new radiator but after 10 years or so thay need replacement anyway. If you are curious cut the old one in half and look at the tubes to see if they had any accumulation of gunk restricting the flow of coolant.
