1st is WAY tall 3rd is WAY short and your in 2nd when wide open.
thus the mpg of the auto is a sizable amount less then the manual trans versions

+1. The auto ruins them. My wife had a '99 1.3 auto. It SCREAMED on the freeway. No lockup. Pathetic fuel mileage for what it was.
