Possibly a B-series, maybe the 3B. I actually like that series, especially the 15B-T. Even the non-turbo 14B is a good one, and was the last engine used in the Brazilian-made Toyota Bandeirante. It doesn't pull like a 14y.o. with a Playboy, but moves such rigs pretty decently. In the picture below, one which is currently used in Brazil as a military ambulance.
This engine was quoted to be replaced with the smaller and less torquey 5L-E which was used in the Argentinian-made Hilux at the time.
The 5L-e is still in use in some versions of the Hilux aimed to African markets because it was already compliant to Euro-2 standards, altough being an IDI while the 14B is direct-injection, and in the Hiace in Peru since it's better suited to the high sulphur content of the Diesel fuel back there.
