I have a 1999 Forester, but live in Arizona. Down in the Phoenix area, it is always in closed loop--I am not sure that I have ever accelerated hard enough to open the loop. My parents live in the mountains and when I accelerated hard, it would go open loop, but the temperatures were probably twenty degrees or less, not something that I will ever see in the Valley!
