Hee hee hee, that's what I was thinking. You can glean the construction from the installation manual :

What I didn't notice previously is that there are "two" exhaust ports. The first is the "griddle" end that creates back-pressure, but the second is the filter. There is a triangular cut in the tube that exposes the filter to the outside. When mounting, you aim that open part down. Therefore, the back-pressure must help push exhaust through the filter, aiding in PM capture.
