OK, I've had some time to think about the bump start thing.
The normal method is, while coasting, let the clutch pedal all the way out quickly and hope it works. This often creates a couple head jerking movements, forwards and backwards, that would also put forward and backward loading on the timing belt. Since joining this forum, I've learned the gentler version of just barely letting the clutch engage enough to spin over the motor and quickly depressing the clutch again to allow the engine to come up to speed before releasing the clutch again normally. I'm thinking this technique is no harder that using the starter on the timing belt. I could be wrong( and often am
).
I am still going to change my timing belt this spring along with the tensioner and idler. I don't think the pulleys got changed when the belt was changed.
