Ryland pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. Hub motors are in theory great until you start factoring in the added unsprung weight and all the other issues. They have been working on this since Porsche came up with the first hybrid way back in the day. China and India has many of these all over the net meant for scooters which do the job. Now putting these in a 2500 pound or more vehicle is a different ball game. There is a company called Proteon that has been doing some major work into these motors so you might check them out. However I do not think its possible as a consumer to purchase any of there technology. They like everyone else wants the big government and corporate contracts
