Good oil...

Last September it was time to change the oil in the Sonata so I drained the wonderful PYB10w30 and put in PU5w20. Much too my dismay I noticed my short trip mpg was down from previously with the other oil. It was starting to get a little colder as well so I figured I was already seeing a big hit on my mpg.

Well, I changed to oil from the PU5w20 to the now wonderful PYB5w20 and so far my data tells me this...

With PU5w20 my average trip to work on a 55f day would net 38.5 mpg. Now after two weeks of confirming the 55f data on the new oil my mileage is back up to 42 mpg, same as the PYB10w30.

I record the short trip numbers every trip to and from work and have done so for a year now. I have data from 26f to 90f.

The initial run of PYB10w30 was my first time using PYB and it came after fixing the oil pan leak myself that the dealer just couldn't get right 3x! That initial run of PYB brought many new records for mpg in my car, most tanks over 40 mpg in a row, 3 in a row at 43.5 mpg, a 741 mile tank, and the highest average for an entire oil change interval. All I had run before was various different 5w20's.

Figured this time around I'd see if the PYB5w20 was as good as the 10w30, if not better. We will see, but you would think the 5w20 would yield better mpg.

Anyway, the best part of all his is that the PYB is $15/5l jug at Walmart. Now, go get thee some good oil.
