The previous Combined rating was 34MPG, while the current/latest Combined rating is 30MPG. When I bought the xA I was thrilled to get anything 32MPG and above (my previous car was a Ford Focus ZX5 and I averaged ~27MPG; struggling to get 32MPG at best. Within the first two years or so, I averaged 37MPG - because I was trying as much as I knew at the time. I have a manual, and I almost never use the A/C.
So, the ratings are not too far off of what a "typical" person would get.
