Update: Total invested in the car is just over $2200 with the new stereo...I have put about 2,000 miles on it. I haven't used much oil (can't tell that I used any from the dipstick) even though compression on all 4 was low (100-140 psi, this tells me the head gasket or valves are going...). Lifetime economy is 34.2 mpg. For a total investment of $2,200, I am happy. I am sure the car would do better if I didn't sit in stop and go traffic 2x a day. The last 5 miles of my morning commute and first 5 miles of my afternoon commute is 0-55 mph going to and from base.

I am probably going to sell this car if I stay in Va Beach. My next set of orders are probably going to be over in Norfolk. I don't think I want to commute in rush hour on the interstates in a Metro with 206,000 miles. Maybe with a newer engine and transmission (with a little more power to accelerate and a transmission I don't have to baby), but that costs money and increases the amount I have in the car.
