Honestly, I would change it before the chain is needed.
When chain is needed, there is a fair chance your bike shop would not want to fit anything but OEM setup.
Also, depending on your current mileage, chain replacement could be in several years.

Having replaced sprockets on 2 bikes, I have not been disappointed by longevity.

Your most likely disappointment will probably be the modesty of the felted change and you will wonder how much more she could have handled.
