Please excuse me for being late to the party, I did not even have a car when this discussion went on, and it was not until I had a Forester with $4 gas that I was concerned with more than just driving conservatively.

In 2,007, I hit an elk in my 1990 Accord and my dad sold me his 2,002 Focus for $3,000. Three months later, a truck hit it and I bought a 1997 Nissan Altima from a dealership for $3,400 with under 100,000 miles.

Here is a 1998 Altima with 126,000 miles from a private party for $3,000: 1998 Nissan Altima and another with 109,000 miles for $4,990: Cars for Sale: 1998 Nissan Altima in PHOENIX, AZ 85027: Sedan Details - 342384674 - AutoTrader.com

People are always telling me that everyone is purchasing used cars because they cannot afford new ones.
