So, thinking of renting out your older car for use in a movie/TV show?

I've dealt with movie productions before, so I know that you should expect the odd scratch or ding. But these cars were not even being driven, just used in background shots as still vehicles. Forget "Industrial Light & Magic", these guys used "Industrial Sledge & Ballpeen" for their effects. And this is a big budget movie too, not some amateurs.

My low mile, original paint Tracker needs 2 new headlights and a clamp for the roof. My low mile, original paint Civic needs both side mirrors, a tail light, and as you can see they missed with the hammer the first time when they were going for the light and bashed the 1/4 panel, and my buddies 90k KM, supercharged, black on black BMW had all the front lights caved in, both mirrors smashed off, and the paint on both bumpers ruined. If these guys hadn't been the big name they were and hadn't promised that nothing would happen to our cars, there is no way we would have rented them anything nice from our stash. Needless to say they are paying full retail for the repairs to get everything back to the way it was, but still. These guys had my Insight. It was one of the few that didn't get any damage at all, lucky for them! And of course the $300 Dakota and $400 Oldsmobile wagon went totally unharmed ha ha. So if you get an offer to have one of your neat looking old cars used in movie or TV production, just keep it in mind that the unexpected can happen.
