With my subaru I have really short gearing w/ 4.11 final drive. So i'm cruising at 3000rpm on the highway while doing 70mph. It feels torquey and allows top gear passes, but you pay for it at the pump.
Average Speed vs. MPG from my log:
25mph - 22 mpg
50mph - 33 mpg
65mph - 28 mpg
72mph - 26 mpg
