As long as you're trying for long-range e-bike or trike, and DIY isn't off the table-why not a custom recumbent? I'm thinking specifically of this page:
AtomicZombie - DIY Recumbent Bike, Trike, and Chopper Plans
Recumbent means lower to the ground for possible visibility issues (that may be offset by the unusual profile and a bright paint/lights combo) but greater aero and stability for the power supply and cargo. Handbuilt means more time and effort but a MUCH bigger budget for the batteries and motor, plus you can customize the heck out of it.
