Mine's a 2wd, so I'd like to mate the motor directly up to the transfer case. From the photos I've seen, I should be able to put a 10 or 12" motor right next to the transmission if I modify the floor-pan in the cab.

If you wanted to keep your 4Wd, you'd have to put the motor in line with the front drive shaft. I'm not sure how that would work. That's what I'd thought about doing directly behind my trans, in line with the rear drive shaft, but I'm not sure how the motor would hold up w/ all the torque of the engine passing through it. It'd have to be beefy to not tear up it's splines at each end.

Given that the motor would be behind the trans, it would only be good for a fixed range of speed... 0 - 35mph, maybe? It would be really convenient having an electronic transfer case that would let us hit a button or control with an arduino or something to turn the motor off and cut it's connection to the drive line at some speed.

In other news, I finished the 2nd layer of fiberglass on the shell tonight and did a bunch of sanding.
