Don't get me wrong, I actually like the Mythbusters show--even if I disagree with them sometimes.
Probably my biggest beef with the hypermiling evaluation is that they were hypermiling a route that they'd only ran once before in a car that was new to them. Hypermiling isn't just something you can jump into a new car and drive a new route and get it right--it's a fine art that takes years of practice to perfect. What they did would be equivalent to me picking up a violin and attempting to play it for an hour, then concluding that it's impossible for violins to create beautiful music.
