I'm going to say no.

...unless you spend many hundreds of dollars and a few months' work on extreme aero mods and hypermile like your life depends on it. You'll have to really think about how much you're willing to modify your car and change your driving techniques.

Getting a tank over 40mpg is one thing, but bringing your average up to that is very different. You'll have to be getting much higher than that on the freeway to balance out any city or suburban driving. Every MPG higher is a little bit tougher than the last.

I don't mean to discourage you, but I had reached almost 90% over EPA in my "Anal Probe" and it was a LOT of work. It's going to be very difficult in an automatic, too. Learn how to drive efficiently, mod, mod, mod, but also just be realistic about your goals!

PS- buy a stick shift
