I did some test previously and 3 hours seems to be perfect for me. after three hours, the heat hits a plateau, and doesn't get very higher even with 1 or 2 hour more. On the ScanGauge before starting the car and after being plugged for 3 hours, my c°WT (Water Temperature in Celsius) shows between 47°C and 69°C depending on outside temperature and numerous other little factors. 71°C is the highest I've seen after plugging for 4 hours and 15 minutes.
It is a coolant block heater. I plan on buying an oil pan heater and a transmission heater before cold temp arrives.
