So I am back home, 35 mpg on the return loop. Got some intresting info about my car on the Celica Gts forum.
Quote:The 22-RE fuel injection system circulates fuel through the hot fuel rail continuously and in just a couple of hours of driving it can get the bulk fuel in the tank surprisingly hot. I've measured tank floor temperatures well in excess of 120F with my infrared thermometer after driving in 70F weather. If I were to refill the tank with ~4 gallons with the remaining ~12 gallons of bulk fuel this hot it would take significantly less volume (gallons) of fuel to refill it than if the bulk fuel temperature was similar to that of the fuel being added. This gives a falsely low fuel usage number, leading to a falsely high mpg number.:Quote
The poster of this and I agree, I did not have an issue on this trip as I had wet roads and cool temperatures for 100% of the drive and rain for 90%.
