So I am back home, 35 mpg on the return loop. Got some intresting info about my car on the Celica Gts forum.

I've measured tank floor temperatures well in excess of 120F with my infrared thermometer after driving in 70F weather. The poster of this and I agree, I did not have an issue on this trip as I had wet roads and cool temperatures for 100% of the drive and rain for 90%.
