Sensor: suitable for measuring fuel dosage in old diesels?

Dear fellows diesel mpg hunters:

I found this cheap circuit that triggers a switch and can be activated with any sensor, for default, light.

I am not strong in electronics, but some of our Smart posters may find the way to use this switch to measure fuel dosage in old diesels.
